15 One Metres crossing the start line at Chipstead SC radio Sailing

International One Metre (IOM)

This yacht is presently our largest sailing fleet of Model Yachts. We have on average 18 yachts weather dependent racing every Wednesday at 10.00am and on Fridays.

The I.O.M. which is a popular class is sailed at many clubs in the UK and all around the world. It is one Meter in length, has three sets of sails and weighs a minimum of 4 kilos. This yacht is a mid-price range yacht and we have a few very good secondhand yachts for sail within our club, (due to upgrading) at very good prices. These are ideal for the first time sailor in this fleet.

The IOM Class Rules specify a standardised sail plan and control of the other major performance dimensions (displacement, length, and draught) while allowing some freedom in hull design. The IOM is now the largest and arguably most competitive of all radio sailing classes. which govern all aspects of the IOM rigging, hull, material used in construction and the size of sails used thereby giving everyone an equal chance of being a winner.

Rules for the racing of this yacht are the same for all classes, these rules are available from the club or the MYA. IOM yachts must have a measurement certificate which is obtained from an official measurer of the MYA. It is advisable to have this certification for your yacht before racing it at all levels.

Chipstead SC Radio Sailing have a fleet of 23 yachts with some of our skippers now being noticed within the UK Ranking and on the European circuit for their sailing ability. The novice is always welcome and will receive help and advice regarding rigging, tuning and sailing from the more seasoned skipper’s.
