The Radio Sailing class was formed as part of Chipstead SC in February 2015 with an initial membership of approx 15 members many of which transferred from the Swanley Club which was in the process of closing due to a silted up lake. Since then the number of members has increased to 26. The Chipstead SC Radio Sailing is a member of the UK’s Model Yachting Association, the governing body for all Radio Sailing within the United Kingdom. Within our members we have some very good sailors who race in UK open events being ranked high enough to take part in European and World events within the UK team.
Our Club racing programme consists of Mondays at 10.00am Dragon 95’s, Wednesday at 10.00am the IOMs and Fridays an open class day at 11.00am with a stop for lunch concluding the session at 2.00pm all classes of yachts are welcome to come along and either race or use as a tune up day.
As a Club we sail all year round (weather permitting) having four different series for each class, Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter. In the early part of the year we also run Open Meetings when sailors from all over the UK compete for Trophies and a position in there UK and area class standings. In addition we have in club trophy races which include the Bullard trophy, Peter Curl Trophy, Past Friends Handicap Trophy and William Grant Trophy, also a Trophy award for most improved sailor in each fleet of our quarterly series.
