It was a cold but bright day with strong winds from the south east. Race officer, Dave Allinson and his team handled the racing very well and was able to run 15 races consisting of two laps with a control area along its whole length giving a good view of the yachts while racing. Chipstead Lake provided a long beat and run course which had to be adjusted at lunch time as the wind increase further and its direction changed slightly. This gave some excellent conditions for racing throughout the day, with enough variation in direction to make the beats interesting.

As the wind was strong number 2 rigs were used throughout the day. The racing was very close in the middle part of the fleet. However at the front Colin Goodman sailed very well and managed to win most of the races. Tony Edwards sailed consistently to win the remaining races. As the wind increased during the day there were a number of rig issues with some having problems resulting in retirements. Trevor Binks, Mark Dennis and Peter Crisp also sailed well to fill the remaining top positions and collected prizes at the end of the tiring day.

The lunch break was welcomed, giving an opportunity to get warm and enjoy a beef stew and bread with a hot drink, laid on especially by the Chipstead SC Radio Sailing members.

Assistant race officer, Garven McKie, kept the racing going with back to back races. The afternoon period produced similar results.

Overall it was an enjoyable and good natured day’s racing for all those who attended. Special thanks were given by the prize-winners to Dave Allinson , who managed the racing well and organised a team from Chipstead SC Radio Sailing for scoring, observing, catering etc. as well as making a photographic record of the event.

There is no doubt that this radio sailing club has fantastic facilities, very well suited to running events with a large lake with good access on the banks and the clubhouse and excellent launching facilities right in the centre of the activity.
