Charting a New Course

Chipstead Sailing Club is making waves thanks to Kent and London law firm Thackray Williams sponsoring new sails for four of the club’s Oppies, sturdy training dinghies used by the Chipmates’ junior class. The custom-made sails replace tired 20-year-old ones, making it easier and more fun for beginners to learn the ropes. The upgrade is a gamechanger for beginners, helping them build conidence and skills. Club boats are vital for giving children from non-sailing families a way to get started. ‘Juniors can use the club boats for as long as they need,’ says junior class captain Nick Sinclair. ‘The new sails boost sailors’ confidence and mean they’re in a much better position to compete against those fortunate enough to have their own boats.’ Thackray Williams is proud to support the club’s commitment to youth development and sustainability. The old sails will be upcycled into bags or donated to schools. Look out for the new sails in action this season!
