Ian Walker visit

It was lovely to see our Junior Class out in force on 27th April as 30 of last year’s regatta and main fleets wrapped up for an unseasonably chilly April morning to be coached by Chipstead SC’s very own president and Olympian, Ian Walker.

Ian’s teaching was well received by the two fleets, each with a different focus according to the stage and experience of the sailors in the group. There was also an opportunity for Mim (current holder of the Ian Walker Trophy) to meet Ian and for the pair to pose for a photo! After a busy morning and a quick lunch, Juniors, parents and other club members decamped to the snug to hear Ian talk about his sailing career including details of some of the challenges he’s faced whilst competing in the Volvo Ocean Race. A huge thank you to Ian for giving up his time to coach and inspire our Juniors.
