Final Round IOM Met & Southern Championship

Chipstead SC Lake 23rd November 2024

Storm Bert struck on the same day as the Final Round of the IOM Met & Southern Championship open meeting held at the Chipstead SC Radio Sailing lake. Fortunately, the Chipstead SC lake was on the eastern edge of the storm so it was decided to continue with this event.

A number of entries pulled out due to the weather, but there were sufficient sailors prepared to sail in the event.

A windward / leeward course was set with the IOM using their number 2 Rig for
every race. A short break took place during the late
morning due to heavy rain but the sailing continuing after to complete 17 races before the event ended.

Initially the event was very close between Robin Aldcroft and Jeremy Collier who both had 4 wins each. However, towards the end of the day’s sailing Jeremy Collier pulled ahead in the number of wins holding the lead to the end.

The prize giving followed the racing with the Chipstead SC Rear Commodore Keith Turtle presenting the prizes.

1st Jeremy Collier Eastbourne 18 points after discards
2nd Robin Aldcroft Chipstead SC 21 points after discards
3rd John Crix Eastbourne 34 points after discards

This result allowed the complete Met & Southern Championship points to be calculated.
Keith Turtle then presented the Met & Southern Championship Trophy to the overall winner.

The Chipstead SC Radio Sailing race team worked hard all day providing a good level of course and sailing. The start and finish were well organised by Robert Owens and Mike Lightwing.
