Eligibility
- The Novices Cup race series is for adult and junior novice sailors, and starts next Saturday 11th May, with a start time of 12:20. That is 5 minutes after the 12:15 start for the Commodore’s Cup, which is for non-Novice juniors. They are separate races series and you cannot enter both races.
- You are not able to helm in the Novice Cup if you have qualified (sailed the number of races to qualify, usually 9) in any of the summer series last year or previously, as you are deemed to be no longer a novice. This includes Class, Handicap, Junior or Wednesday Evening Racing.
- If you have sailed in previous years but not ever qualified as a helm in any of the summer series you are still eligible to helm in the Novices Cup, unless you have previously had a 1st, 2nd or 3rd place in a Novices Cup
- Qualifying in a summer series this year does not prevent you from helming in the Novices Cup this year.
- Previous qualification in a summer series as a crew in a double handed boat does not prevent you from helming in the Novices Cup
- For double handed boats, the crew does not need to be a novice. They can have qualified as helm or crew in any previous years and still crew for a novice helm. There are no restrictions on who can crew as long as the helm is a novice.
- You do not need to sail the same boat in each race. You are welcome to try different boats in different weeks
