Paddleboarding at Chipstead SC

Whether you’re a seasoned paddler or getting out on your SUP for the first time, Chipstead Sailing Club is a fantastic place to paddle board!

How do I join?

In order to paddle at Chipstead Lake, you need your own board (and buoyancy aid) – and to sign up as a member using the membership link above. You’re then just a brief induction away from getting on the water!

We are a friendly, member-led Club; we love to welcome new paddlers and to have social paddles during the warmer months.

Our membership year runs from January to December. There is a cap on the number of SUP memberships; once that’s reached, new memberships will not be available until the following January.

Do you offer lessons or board hire?

Unfortunately we do not offer lessons, board hire or pay-as-you-go paddling (while not connected with Chipstead, you can try https://www.standuppaddleboardingwithana.co.uk/ for lessons nearby or Leybourne Lakes, St Andrews Lake, Mote Park or Bewl Water for hire).

When can I paddle?

Our lake is shared with sailors, open water swimmers and others – so please check the Paddleboard link under the Information section of this website for latest SUP times and rules. If your query isn’t answered there, please email paddleb@chipsteadsc.org.uk.

Anything Else I Need to Know?

– Please always wear a buoyancy aid and leash on the water
– Display your membership bands proudly when on the water (we suggest attaching to your buoyancy aid)
– Launch and recover only at the Club foreshore, pontoons or the SUP launch
– Give anglers plenty of space (20m+) and stay away from fishing platforms
– Use the east (Tesco) end of the lake when swimmers are present (see https://www.triswim.org.uk/ for times)
– Stay clear of the waterfall – and avoid the river at the east end of the lake if the boom is across (in the summer nesting season)
– Always be on the water with your under-14s, and at least on Club premises with under-18s
– For more info, check the paddleboarding guidelines page here

Happy paddling!
